How does the shadowban checker work?
We fetch the account's public feed the way an anonymous, logged-out visitor would, no login, nothing posted. Then we look at two things: whether the account is reachable at all, and whether its recent posts and comments actually appear. Filtered or removed content drops out of that public feed, so an account that loads but shows nothing is the tell-tale sign of suppression.
Is "shadowban" even a real thing on Reddit?
At the account level it is mostly a myth now. Reddit largely replaced true silent account shadowbans with suspensions (which show "this account has been banned" and usually notify you) years ago, and reserves genuine shadowbans for obvious spam bots. What founders usually call a shadowban is different: their comments get silently spam-filtered or automod-removed in a subreddit while their account is completely fine. That is content filtering, which is exactly the "reachable but nothing public" result.
Can it tell a shadowban apart from a ban or a deleted account?
Not from the outside, they all make the account invisible to logged-out visitors. If the check comes back "not found," open the profile: Reddit's own page says whether it's banned, suspended, deleted, or a name that never existed. For your own account you already know it isn't deleted or misspelled, so "not found" means banned or suspended.
Why do accounts get shadowbanned or filtered?
Reddit's spam filter is aggressive with new or low-karma accounts, especially ones that post links or promote a product early. Founders doing their own outreach hit this constantly, and because filtering is invisible to you, you can spend weeks posting into the void without knowing.
The result says "couldn't confirm", what does that mean?
Reddit rate-limited or blocked our anonymous request, so we could not read the public view either way. That is not evidence of a shadowban, it just means try again in a minute.
