Terms of Service
Using Thread Otter means you agree to the terms below. We've written them in plain English. They cover what we provide, what we ask of you, billing, and the usual liability things lawyers insist on.
Last updated: May 21, 2026
1. The service
Thread Otter is a Chrome extension and web dashboard that helps founders draft replies to social media threads using AI. We provide the software, the AI draft generation, the conversation tracking, the product-context pipeline, and the voice configuration tools. We support Reddit, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, Bluesky, and other platforms via browser extension and server-side integrations.
2. Your account
- You need to be at least 16 to sign up.
- You're responsible for keeping your password and API token safe.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person per account. Projects let you collaborate with teammates.
3. Acceptable use — your responsibility
Thread Otter is a drafting tool, not an auto-posting bot. We generate draft replies. You review, edit, and manually post them. We never auto-submit comments, replies, or posts to any platform on your behalf.
Don't use Thread Otter to:
- Spam communities. Posting hundreds of AI-generated replies per day is spam, regardless of quality. You are solely responsible for the volume, tone, and appropriateness of what you post. If a community or platform bans or restricts your account for excessive posting, that is your responsibility — not ours.
- Send harassment, hate speech, or anything illegal.
- Mislead people about your product, pricing, capabilities, or affiliations.
- Violate any platform's terms of service — your Reddit, X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, or other social media accounts are yours to keep compliant. Thread Otter does not monitor or enforce platform-specific posting rules.
- Impersonate other people or brands.
- Reverse-engineer the service, scrape the API beyond your own data, or interfere with other users.
- Process data you don't have the right to process.
Platform bans and restrictions: If any social media platform bans, suspends, rate-limits, or otherwise restricts your account due to activity performed using Thread Otter drafts, that outcome is entirely your responsibility. Thread Otter provides drafts; you choose whether, when, and how often to post them. We are not liable for any consequences arising from your posting behavior.
We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section. We'll tell you why and give you a chance to fix it unless the violation is severe.
4. AI-generated drafts
Drafts come from a large language model grounded on your product context and voice profile. They are drafts— you decide what to send. We don't guarantee any draft is accurate, on-brand, or appropriate for a given situation. Review every draft before posting.
You are responsible for what you post under your social media accounts, including any claims, commitments, or representations the AI phrasing might imply. Thread Otter never posts on your behalf — every reply requires your manual action to submit.
5. Aggregated insights
We may use anonymized, aggregated data from across users to generate segment-level insights — such as channel benchmarks and response-rate trends. Your individual conversations, drafts, product context, and outcomes are never shared or exposed to other users. See our privacy policyfor full details on what is and isn't aggregated, and how to opt out.
6. Billing
- Paid plans are billed monthly or annually via Stripe.
- You can cancel any time from the dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
- Refunds: we'll prorate honestly if something on our end breaks. Outside that, fees are non-refundable.
- Failed payments after 7 days' notice may pause your account.
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice for existing subscribers.
7. Your content, your IP
You own your product context documents, voice configurations, conversation history, and any drafts you generate. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display them only as needed to provide the service.
We own the software, the dashboard, the extension, and the visual design. You get a non-exclusive, revocable license to use them while your account is active.
8. Confidentiality
We treat your product context, conversation data, and voice configuration as confidential. We don't share them with anyone except the subprocessors listed in our privacy policy, and only as needed to run the service.
9. Service availability
We aim for high uptime but don't promise it. We may have planned maintenance, occasional outages, or third-party disruptions (including changes to social media platform APIs or DOM structures that may temporarily break the extension). We'll keep you informed when something significant breaks.
10. Disclaimers
Thread Otter is provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent allowed by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. AI output is not guaranteed to be correct, complete, or appropriate.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages — including lost revenue, lost followers, account bans or restrictions on third-party platforms, or loss of goodwill arising from AI-generated drafts or your posting activity.
12. Termination
You can stop using the service any time. We can terminate accounts for material breach of these terms — including the acceptable-use rules — with notice unless the breach makes notice infeasible. After termination, we delete your data per our privacy policy.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. For material changes, we'll email account holders at least 14 days in advance. Continuing to use the service after the effective date means you accept the new terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.
